SWNS (Save Wellesley's Neighborhood Schools) Endorses Ron Alexander!
Hello 3-school supporters!

This upcoming election will be a very important part of us reaching our 3-school goal. We're currently working on a helpful voting guide to let you know which Town Meeting Members support a 3-school plan. We'll share this with you as soon as possible. But right now we'd like to focus on School Committee (SC).

As a reminder, SC is comprised of five seats. Two of these seats are currently up for re-election, which means each resident will have two votes to cast for two different SC candidates. There are five candidates running. To state the obvious, the results will simply come down to whichever two get the most votes.

We're lucky to have two candidates who have both publicly announced their strong support for a 3-school plan: Eli Burstein and Ron Alexander. These two candidates have both included retaining our current 7 neighborhood school model in their campaign platform. However it's important to point out that they are not running together (which isn't really a "thing" in local elections anyway) and they each offer their own independent campaign points, separate from neighborhood schools and separate from each other. So they are not one-trick ponies and they each bring something unique to the table!

If this cause is important to you, we strongly recommend you consider casting your two SC votes for Eli and Ron. The HHU decision will soon be placed in SC's hands and they will make the final recommendation to the town. There will also be decisions made over the next several years that will relate to HHU, as the construction will be staggered no matter which plan is chosen. At the end of the day, you must choose for yourself who you want to vote for, but we think it's important to point out that these two candidates strongly support a 3-school plan and the others do not.

We've been informed that Eli and Ron each have lawn signs available. If you're willing to give your SWNS sign a little company for a few weeks, please consider hosting lawn signs for Eli or Ron or both! They need awareness in ALL areas of town. Contact Pete (spwjones@comcast.net) to request delivery (include name & address, please).

It's unfortunate that we've seen supporters of other candidates already take a negative, mudslinging approach during this election cycle. No matter who you support in this election, it's our hope that we can all focus on the positive qualities of the people you support, instead of maligning the other candidates. After all, we're all neighbors and you can be certain that no matter who you support, after the election we'll all still spend time together in the same grocery stores, restaurants and athletic fields.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. We recently posted a well-written letter to the editor on our Facebook page, which explains very well why it's important to vote based on the issues that are important to you. If you haven't seen it, please read it here. And if you haven't liked our FB page yet, get liking!

P.P.S. There's no HHU MPC meeting this Thursday, due to vacation week. Next Thursday 3/2 has also been cancelled, due to the League of Women Voters candidate gathering. The MPC meeting that follows the election will be extremely important, as they will decide which school to recommend to build first. The results of this election could send a strong message to the MPC. Please VOTE ON 3/7!!!!
